ISAGA 2006 Summerschool

Die 3. ISAGA Summerschool wird zum Thema Planspieldesign („Art and Science of Simulation & Gaming Design”) von 19 – 26 August 2006 an der FHV - University of Applied Sciences Vorarlberg ausgerichtet.

So wie 2004 an der Ludwig Maximilians Universität München (Deutschland) und 2005 an der Uniwersytet Jagiellonski Krakau (Polen) bietet auch die diesjährige Summerschool eine einwöchige Weiterbildungsaktion und Professionalisierung im Bereich Gaming & Simulation. 32 Teilnehmer werden gemeinsam mit fünf international bekannten Experten zusammentreffen, dabei finden einerseits Fachvorträge, Diskussionen und Gesprächsrunden zum Erfahrungsaustausch statt, andererseits wird – schwerpunktmäßig – in kleinen Projektteams konkret und praxisbezogen an der Entwicklung und Präsentation von Planspielprototypen zusammengearbeitet.

Nach derzeitigem Anmeldestand (1. Februar 2006) kommen Dozenten und Teilnehmer aus folgenden Ländern: Australien, Japan, Niederlande, Italien, Polen, Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz.

2005 - International ISAGA Summer School in Gaming & Simulation

Theme: Facilitation and Debriefing of Simulation & Gaming

Date: August 20 - 27, 2005

Participants:
The minimum number of participants is 20. The maximum number of participants is 30. The available places will be granted in the order of registration.

Program:
The summer school will give participants the opportunity to learn about the effective use of different gaming simulation methods and to learn how to facilitate and debrief gaming simulation sessions. Morning sessions: lectures and discussions about the various perspectives on gaming simulation, their facilitation, play and debriefing.Afternoon and evening sessions: Participants will form small project teams. Coached by the teachers, they will prepare simulation game sessions, including their facilitation and debriefing. The teams will facilitate and debrief the games with the remaining group of participants. Each game session is followed by a meta-debriefing with all teachers involved (debriefing of the facilitation and debriefing process).Topics include: Role of facilitator in G&S learning environments, communication skills and pitfalls for facilitators, dealing with group dynamics and conflict management; effective briefing and warming up techniques; debriefing themes, structures and methods; facilitator skills for working with a mix of national and cultural differences. The Summer School language is English.

Participation Fee:
ISAGA members: 400,-- / non-members: 500,-- / student members: 200,-- / student non-members: 250,--
Members of affiliated organizations will be charged the ISAGA member-fee (SAGSAGA, OzSAGA, NASAGA, SAGSET, SAGANET, JASAG, ABSEL, and DiGRA). All prices are in Euro!A number of limited places is available for participants from developing countries (100,-- Euro regular or 50,-- Euro for students). Please contact organizers directly. The fee includes Summer School documentation and certificate. The fee does not include meals or accommodation. A full meal plan (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will cost 15,-- Euro per day and accommodation is available in the nearby university guesthouse (single room: 30,-- Euro per person per night; double room: 20,-- Euro per person per night).

Als international geprägter Wissenschafts- und Forschungsstandort bietet München einen guten und schönen Rahmen für diese Tagung, die ein Forum für Wissenschaftler, Personaltrainer und Berater aus aller Welt darstellt.

Bridging the Gap: Transforming Knowledge into Action through Gaming Simulation - das Motto der diesjährigen Konferenz greift eine bekannte, in einem durch wachsende Komplexität gekennzeichneten Lebens- und Arbeitsumfeld aber aktueller denn je gewordene Fragestellung auf. Die Entwicklung und Anwendung von Planspielen, simulierten Vorgängen und anderen aktivierenden Trainingselementen leisten hierbei einen wertvollen Beitrag für den bereich der Aus- und Weiterbildung, Personal- und Organisationsentwicklung und des Managements.

Welcome to the 35th ISAGA conference 2004 in Munich! The conference is being held jointly by ISAGA (International Simulation And Gaming Association) and SAGSAGA (Swiss Austrian German Simulation And Gaming Association). The conference is a forum for enhancing gaming simulation and related approaches. A wide range of methodologies such as business and management simulation games, computer simulations, role-play, learning games, scenarios, policy exercises, case studies, project methods and experiential learning activities and their design and debriefing will be discussed. A variety of keynote and research paper presentations, panel discussions, poster sessions and workshops will ensure an interesting program. Among others Richard Duke (founding father and honorary member of ISAGA) and Jan Klabbers (general secretary of ISAGA for more than 25 years) will be present to celebrate the 35th anniversary and to tell the Saga of ISAGA.

The conference will be of relevance to all who are interested in gaming and simulation as academics and practitioners, as well as those from all sectors of education, training and management. The conference will encourage communication among professional users and designers of gaming simulation methods in the private sector (industry and business) and in public institutions (science, education, administration). We expect about 400 participants from all over the world and we look forward meeting you! Right now about 125 persons from 22 nations are registered.

Please note that there are reduced fees for members of ISAGA and many other Gaming Simulation related associations like SAGSAGA, NASAGA,
ABSEL, SAGSET, JASAG, DiGRA, SIGIS etc. Please note that there are special reduced fees for students and participants coming from developing countries.

The conference fee is an inclusive price and covers the conference documentation, transportation during the conference (public transportation ticket), lunch, refreshments, conference proceedings, social program (special sightseeing tours in the beautiful historic town of Munich, conference dinner in the world most famous public beer house, the ?Hofbräuhaus? (founded in 1589), with traditional Bavarian meals and beer, typical Bavarian folklore, music and dance progra, receptions
in university and town hall chambers etc.) and ISAGA membership for one year. Please note that the fee does not include accommodation.


Last Call for Papers - deadline to submit contributions is 30th April 2004.

You are especially invited to contribute under the main theme and to present innovative projects in education and training. Contributions may also focus on a wide range of other themes related to theory, research and practice in the field of gaming simulation. If you would like to contribute, please send an abstract via email or fax to the conference organizer. The length of the abstract must not exceed 350 words and the length of the full paper must not exceed 4000 words. A detailed guideline for the style of the full paper will be available at the website in April 2004. For the abstract you do not need to follow specific rules. Contributors should state the format, whether the contribution is a workshop (60 minutes or 120 minutes; activity based session with game play and/or demonstration of simulation game and discussion), a paper (40 minutes; based on research, theory, development or experience with discussion) or a poster presentation (displayed throughout the conference and discussed in a special 45-minute poster session). The program committee will consider all abstracts received and will inform potential contributors regarding their presentation to the program.
Please remember to include paper title, format, full name, affiliation, address, telephone, fax and email with the abstract.

Deadline for paper abstract: 30th April, 2004
Notification of acceptance: 15th May, 2004
Deadline for full paper: 15th June, 2004

Contributors must strictly follow the time schedule, because both CD and book will be published before the conference.
Abstracts and papers received after the given deadlines may be included in the conference session?s program, but cannot be included in the CD or book recorded proceedings, nor can they be considered eligible for the ?outstanding paper award? review process.

There are three Special Sessions:

1. Simulation / gaming for Technological Infrastructures and Utilities; session organizers: Dr. Ivo Wenzler (Accenture; Delft University of Technology) and Dr. Igor Mayer (Delft University of Technology).

2. The art & science of design: the interplay between design-in-the-large and design-in-the small; session organizer: Prof. Dr. Jan H.G. Klabbers (KMPC, NL; Department of Information & Media Science,University of Bergen, Norway)

3. Gaming Simulation for Urban Management and Urban Planning; session organizers: Prof. Dr. Paola Rizzi (wid, Italy), Professor Toshiyuki Kaneda (University of Nagoya, Japan)

If you want to contribute with your paper to those special sessions please include this information in your abstract.

Otherwise your paper, workshop or poster will be assigned into the regular parallel session program.
